White hake is a large predatory fish that lives on muddy continental shelf bottoms. It migrates seasonally and feeds mainly on smaller fish and shrimps. This species is prized by anglers for its size and fight.
Where they live
Found in North Atlantic saltwaters on soft, muddy bottoms from 100 to 1000 meters deep. Prefers cooler temperatures between 5-11°C and migrates inshore during summer in the Gulf of Maine.
