The splendid alfonsino is a deepwater saltwater fish recognized for its bright eyes and sleek fusiform body. This species is a predator that feeds mostly on fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods.

Where they live

Found in deep waters ranging from 25 to 1300 meters, commonly near seamounts and underwater ridges in Atlantic, Mediterranean, and North American saltwater regions. Juveniles live pelagically.
