The Sand perch is a small, solitary saltwater fish found in coastal bays and grassy shallow waters. It is known for retreating into shelter when startled and is a popular pan fish despite its modest size. This species is synchronously hermaphroditic, meaning individuals possess both male and female reproductive organs simultaneously.

Where they live

Found in bays, coastal grassy areas, and shallow banks up to 80 meters deep in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico regions.
