The potato grouper is a large, solitary reef predator known for its distinctive dark spots. It inhabits deep coral and rocky reef environments and forms pairs during spawning. This species can grow very large and is prized by anglers for its size and fighting ability.
Where they live
Found in coral and rocky reefs across the Pacific and Indian Oceans, typically from shallow tide pools for juveniles to deep reef channels and seamounts up to 400 meters deep. Prefers current-prone areas with structures.
