The Pacific sand lance is a slender, elongated fish often found in large schools near the water's surface. It is known for burying itself in sandy bottoms for protection. This species primarily feeds on small zooplankton during both juvenile and adult stages.

Where they live

Found both inshore (from intertidal to subtidal zones) and offshore near the surface over deep waters in brackish and saltwater regions across North America's Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
