The orange-spotted grouper is a predatory fish that often uses ambush tactics from shelters. It inhabits turbid coastal reefs and brackish waters, including estuaries and mangroves. This species forms spawning aggregations during certain periods.

Where they live

Found in brackish and saltwater environments across the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Mediterranean. Prefers turbid coastal reefs, mud and rubble bottoms, estuaries, and mangrove areas from shallow 1 m to deep 100 m.
