The Indian perch, also known as the cardinalfish, is a small saltwater fish found in coastal waters. It features a fusiform body and is notable for a unique black gut coloration. This species is not targeted as a game fish but is a fascinating predator of small crustaceans.

Where they live

Found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, Indian perch inhabit sandy and muddy coastal inlets, coral reefs, and deeper waters ranging from 46 to 100 meters in depth.
