The Electron subantarctic is a small lanternfish found in cold Southern Ocean waters. It has an elongated body and performs daily vertical migrations in the mesopelagic zone. This species plays an important role in the oceanic food web but is not targeted as a game fish.

Where they live

Oceanic lanternfish found in saltwater south of 50°S, inhabiting depths from near the surface down to around 1000 meters. Common near the Subtropical Convergence across Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
