The coelacanth is a rare, ancient fish with lobed pectoral fins resembling limbs. It drifts slowly and uses powerful jaws to ambush prey nearby. This deepwater species is considered a living fossil and is of great scientific interest.

Where they live

Coelacanths inhabit deep saltwater environments around Africa and parts of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, typically found between 150 and 700 meters depth, often near the ocean floor.
