Cisco, also known as lake herring, is a slender freshwater fish found in lakes and large rivers across North America. It feeds on plankton and small crustaceans using both particulate and filter feeding. Cisco is popular among anglers for its fight and edible quality.

Where they live

Cisco inhabits open waters of lakes and large rivers, as well as brackish coastal areas like Hudson Bay, dwelling from surface to about 64 meters deep.
