The butterfly kingfish is a large, deepwater gamefish known for its distinctive large scales and fusiform body. It inhabits cold oceanic waters and is often caught incidentally by longline fisheries targeting other tuna species. This predator feeds on squids, small fish, and occasionally unusual items like bird feathers.
Where they live
Found in deep oceanic waters worldwide, especially in 8° to 10°C temperatures, across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans up to depths around 200 meters.
