Bigeye tuna are powerful saltwater predators known for their tolerance to deep, cooler waters. They inhabit depths up to 1500 meters, often found in the thermocline zone where they hunt actively. This species is prized as a strong game fish due to its size and fighting ability.
Where they live
Bigeye tuna live in tropical and subtropical Atlantic and Mediterranean waters, commonly occupying deep thermocline layers between 150-250 meters during the day and occasionally rising to shallower depths. They tolerate lower temperatures and oxygen levels compared to other tunas.
